What breaks your heart?

I once heard a talk about passion. At the time I was feeling fresh out, so I was happy to gain wisdom on the matter. How do you find what you're passionate about? How do you follow that passion?

What she said changed my perspective. I simply thought your passion was something that you really really liked. Although that is true, there is much more to it. According to this woman, a good question to ask yourself is, what makes you cry? What breaks your heart?

I DIG that. Whatever breaks your heart has the ability to penetrate it. One thing I have experienced is a flooding of my tears as I think about things that absolutely break my heart. This is a good sign. I love it when this emotion takes over. It's almost as if I am no longer capability of hiding my heart from God. This passion dwells up within me and cries out, "LET ME OUT!"

Let me ask you, what breaks your heart?

No, seriously, I feel exactly the same way. If it doesn't elicit such a strong emotion, it's probably just an interest rather than a passion. Watching the Space Shuttle Discovery take off, that made me choke up. That's what made me change my mind about why I'm in grad school. But also, pretty much every time I think about God's provision and salvation, how his plans for me are to give me hope and a future, I tend to shed not a few tears. I'll admit it: I cry more now than I ever did the last 23 years of my life, and mostly out of awe and joy. So I know my faith is a passion for me. Praise His name! Let it out! His word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I'm weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot. Jer. 20:9
